1. What's W-Ni-Cu Alloy Rod?
W-Ni-Cu alloy rod is high density tungsten alloy rod composed of tungsten (W) as the matrix and nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) as the binder phase. Free of iron, CTIA’s W-Ni-Cu alloy rod features non-magnetic or low-magnetic-permeability characteristics. The alloy also offers high density, good ductility, and excellent machinability, making it ideal for applications with strict requirements for magnetic compatibility, dimensional stability, and precision machining.
2. Characteristics of CTIA’s W-Ni-Cu Alloy Rod
(1) Nickel-copper binder phase contains no ferromagnetic elements, providing magnetic permeability close to 1. No magnetic interference is introduced in strong magnetic fields or highly sensitive electromagnetic environments, making it suitable for magnetic resonance equipment and inertial navigation systems.
(2) Density ranges from 16.5–18.75 g/cm³, enabling high mass concentration within limited space for aerospace counterweights, precision instrument balancing weights, and other applications requiring high space utilization.
(3) Nickel-copper binder phase provides good ductility and toughness, supporting conventional machining processes such as turning, milling, and drilling for complex structural components.
(4) Coefficient of thermal expansion is approximately 1/2–1/3 that of steel, maintaining good dimensional accuracy under temperature variations and meeting stability requirements of high-precision equipment.
(5) High atomic number and high density of tungsten provide strong absorption capability for X-rays and gamma rays. The lead equivalence is superior to pure lead, making the alloy suitable for radiation shielding components such as medical CT collimators and nuclear medicine shielding containers.
3. Applications of CTIA’s W-Ni-Cu Alloy Rod
