Tungsten Alloy Round Rod

1. What's Tungsten Alloy Round Rod?
Tungsten alloy round rod, also known as high density tungsten alloy round rod, is manufactured through powder metallurgy using tungsten as the primary component, typically containing 90%–97% tungsten by weight. The main alloying elements include nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), or copper (Cu), forming W-Ni-Fe and W-Ni-Cu alloy series. CTIA’s tungsten alloy rod combines high density, high melting point (3422°C), and low coefficient of thermal expansion of tungsten, while alloying improves toughness, machinability, and mechanical properties. It is widely used in aerospace, medical, industrial, and high-end equipment applications. Compared with pure tungsten, tungsten alloy round rod reduces low-temperature brittleness and provides better machinability for secondary processing such as turning and milling.
2. Characteristics of CTIA’s Tungsten Alloy Round Rod
(1) High Density and High Strength
The density reaches 17.0–18.8 g/cm³, more than 1.7 times that of lead. The tensile strength can reach 700–1400 MPa, with yield strength above 370 MPa and hardness of HRC 26–40, providing excellent load-bearing capability.
(2) Excellent High-Temperature Resistance and Thermal Performance
The low coefficient of thermal expansion (4.5×10⁻⁶/K) and high thermal conductivity provide excellent dimensional stability and structural reliability under high-temperature conditions.
(3) Good Machinability and Mechanical Properties
The optimized alloy composition provides good machinability, high elongation, impact resistance, and fatigue resistance, enabling precision machining for complex components.
(4) Strong Radiation Shielding Capability and Environmental Safety
The high tungsten content provides excellent absorption of X-rays and gamma rays. Compared with lead shielding at the same thickness, it offers 30%–40% higher shielding efficiency while being non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
(5) High Consistency and Corrosion Resistance
The material provides stable batch performance, excellent resistance to acid, alkali, and oxidation, and reliable long-term service capability in demanding environments.
3. Applications of CTIA’s Tungsten Alloy Round Rod
(1) Aerospace and Defense Applications
Used in aircraft counterweights, balance weights, control surface counterweights, and kinetic energy penetrator cores, achieving high mass concentration in compact dimensions due to high density while meeting high strength and high-temperature performance requirements.
(2) Medical Radiation Shielding
Used in radiotherapy collimators, nuclear medicine shielding containers, and X-ray protection components, providing efficient and non-toxic radiation shielding solutions.
(3) Industrial Equipment Manufacturing
Applied in vibration damping boring bars, extrusion dies, electrodes, and support structural components, effectively absorbing vibration, improving machining accuracy, and extending tool service life.
(4) Automotive and Sports Applications
Used in crankshaft balance weights, racing vehicle counterweights, dart shafts, golf club head weights, and other components to improve product dynamic performance.
(5) Other Advanced Applications
Applied in welding electrodes, vacuum equipment components, scientific instrument counterweights, and other specialized applications.
